Embargo Periods
To protect the research process, NERC will allow those who undertake NERC-funded work a period to work exclusively on, and publish the results of, the data they have collected. This period will normally be a maximum of two years from the end of data collection.
In general, all data made available by the NERC Environmental Data Centres can be accessed by anyone for any purpose, typically under the Open Government License, although some resources may be made available under more restrictive terms where there is a valid reason to do so - any such restrictions will be made clear when the data are requested. While the standard embargoes provided can last for up to 2 years from point of data collection, all data resources will ultimately be made publicly available. In rare circumstances, a period longer than 2 years can be accommodated, but this must be agreed with the data centre during the data management planning stage.
For non-NERC funded data different embargoes may be applied.
